Final Shoots - All Those People

When talking to Alice at our last meeting she showed interest in the idea of having one of the shoots next to a pier, near a beach, she also wanted a fairest wheel next to the beach but unfortunately I was unable to find one as iconic and traditional as the one she wanted and when I did find something close it was simply too far away.
The song behind the shoot 'All Those People' typical looks at the story of how one person has broken up with there partner and hasn't quite taken it in yet. In this story I needed my model to act as though she was that person. Again as I am trying to keep the images as innocent as the songs I dressed Hannah in a set of clothes I felt appropriate. All my shoots are to take place in Teignmouth, which is by the water front near to Exeter. Its normally quite a tourist hotspot due to its pier and beach's so there were a lot of odd shops didn't look very attractive, when doing the shots in town I would have to be careful of what my background was. This was the first shoot where I had to pay for my assistant and a model's train tickets which was all budgeted from the start of the project, it was nice in a way for the three of us to talk on the way up, it was quite a good team social and allowed everyone to feel conformable around each other.

I had given a copy of the script to the model and my assistant a few days in advance and I had gone through the whole shoot with them so they understood what they would be doing. This was only a script though and as it was my idea in the first place I knew I could always change bits.

Shoot One

When we got there it turned out to be quite busy, one of biggest problems were the locals, unfortunately the local kids were around on there skateboards going back and fourth through the frame, I went with a few different lighting stages with this image before I finally made it quite focused towards my subject.

After tinkering in Photoshop I created this image, I decided that I wanted my subject to stand out in a crowd, so what I did was to used one of the images where my model was lit up then add several other images on top with more people in them; these images where also at a lower exposure which to edit was a nightmare, but in practice makes my subject really stand out in the image. In context to the story I got her to stare at her pendent, at this point you can't really see what's on it, but you know she's very interested in it.

Shoot Two

Using a much small depth of field I started of with the original image in my head, but as I started to move out I got to really like the more overall image with my subjects body in.

What really does it for me is her pose, I got her to too look away in to the distance like she was looking for someone, this coupled with the main focus on the word 'LOVE' is allows the audience of the image to make the connection that she is looking for her love, although they my not be aware yet that she is losing it.

Shoot Three

After the last shot of my subject being so successful this image was basically a copy of context, this didn't stop me from shooting the image but in the end I felt that it wasn't as strong as the last image and therefore not strong enough for the series. In addiction this shoot became quite awkward when I suddenly gained a lot of attention by the locals who thought the model I was shooting was more famous and that this was a really professional shoot. Though I was complemented to be seen as a professional I was not paying enough attention to the image as a whole which lead to the background not looking the way I wanted it.

Shoot Four

Originally in context to the song I was going to use a guitar, but I wanted to concentrate more on more of the story element. This photo is meant to represent my subject leaving her heart behind. I think my decision to use  jewellery like this to represent her love comes out quite strong, because in parallel love is just a precious and delicate as something close and valuable like love.

This final image came out the strongest for me because you really get a sense of the distance between the subject and the jewellery with the small depth of field.

Shoot Five

In addiction I did one more final shoot; the idea behind this extra image was the ability to change a perspective, I wanted to distort the audience's view like I had with a test shot a while back by flipping the image.

The the image came out well, just like the other shots in town I didn't feel that it was strong enough, I needed more depth and drama to it and a real twist on perspective.

Overall I was very happy with the images I came back with, I felt that it had been a successful day and I had achieved a lot for the small amount of time it took. The only thing is I think it is very possible that I re-shoot the last image again with a better idea for its change of perspective and overall strength as an image.
